Clip - Layer Clipping

Clip geometries using a polygon as boundary

Tool Description

The Clip tool lets you trim an input layer using a polygon as a boundary. It's ideal for extracting data from a specific area or fitting layers to administrative boundaries. The result will be a new layer containing only the geometries found within the clip area.

Useful tip: For best results, make sure both layers are in the same coordinate system. The clip layer must be of polygon type.
Input Layer (to trim)
Supported formats: Shapefile (.shp + .shx + .dbf), GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GeoPackage (.gpkg), GML, GPX, GeoParquet (.parquet), FlatGeobuf (.fgb), TopoJSON, ZIP with Shapefiles
For shapefile: hold down Ctrl and select ALL the files with the same name.

Supported formats: Shapefile (.shp + .shx + .dbf), GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GeoPackage (.gpkg), GML, GPX, GeoParquet (.parquet), FlatGeobuf (.fgb), TopoJSON, ZIP with Shapefiles
This layer must contain polygons that will serve as clipping boundary.
You can keep the original system or reproject the clip result to a specific system.
This format always exports in WGS84 (EPSG:4326) per the format specification.

How it works

1. Load files

Upload the layer to clip and the boundary layer.

2. Intersection

The system identifies geometries within the boundary.

3. Clipping

Geometries are clipped according to the defined boundary.

4. Result

Get the new clipped layer ready to download.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can clip layers containing points, lines, or polygons. The clip layer, however, must contain polygons that define the boundary of the area to keep.

By default, all attributes from the original layer are kept in the result. You can disable this option if you only need the geometries.

The tool will try to reproject them automatically, but for best results, we recommend that both layers be in the same coordinate system before processing.
