Frequently Asked Questions

Dissolve merges geometries that share the same value in an attribute field, creating larger polygons that represent the union of the original geometries. It is fundamental for cartographic simplification and data analysis.

When "all" is used or the field is left empty, all the polygons in the layer are merged into a single polygon representing the layer's total extent.

The tool supports Shapefile (ZIP or individual files: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj, .cpg), GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX, GML, GeoPackage (.gpkg), GeoParquet (.parquet), FlatGeobuf (.fgb), and TopoJSON.
