Export GIS to Excel/CSV

Convert geospatial files to spreadsheets with attributes and geometry

GIS to Excel/CSV - Professional Exporter

Export attributes, coordinates, areas, and perimeters to Excel or CSV

Tool Description

This tool lets you export GIS files (Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ) to spreadsheet formats (Excel or CSV). You can include all the original file's attributes plus additional geometric information such as centroid coordinates, areas, and perimeters.

Included features:
  • All the original GIS file's attributes
  • Centroid coordinates (X, Y) in geographic or projected format
  • Automatic area calculation (m², hectares) for polygons
  • Automatic perimeter calculation (m, km) for polygons
  • Export to Excel (.xlsx) with professional formatting
  • Export to CSV with UTF-8 encoding
Input GIS File
Supported formats: Shapefile (select ALL the files: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj), GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, ZIP with Shapefiles
For shapefile: hold down Ctrl and select ALL the files with the same name.

Information about the tool

What does this tool do?

Convert GIS files to spreadsheet formats (Excel or CSV) while preserving all attributes and allowing you to add additional geometric information such as coordinates, areas, and perimeters.

When to use this tool?

  • Share GIS data with people who don't have specialized software
  • Create coordinate listings to import into Google Earth
  • Calculate areas and perimeters for multiple polygons
  • Generate statistical reports in Excel
  • Prepare data for statistical analysis in R or Python

Supported formats

Input:
  • Shapefile (.shp + supporting files)
  • GeoJSON (.geojson, .json)
  • KML (.kml)
  • KMZ (.kmz)
  • ZIP with Shapefiles
Output:
  • Excel (.xlsx)
  • CSV (.csv with UTF-8)

Automatic calculations

  • Coordinates: Calculates the centroid (geometric center) of each feature
  • Area: Available for polygons, in square meters and hectares.
  • Perimeter: Available for polygons, in meters and kilometers.
Important note: Area and perimeter are measured in real meters. If the file is in a projected coordinate system, they are measured on the plane of that system. If it is in geographic coordinates or in Web Mercator, where a planar measurement is not real, they are measured on the ellipsoid (geodesic). Centroid coordinates can be exported in geographic (Lat/Lon) or projected format, as you prefer.
Professional tips
  • Include coordinates if you need to georeference the data again
  • Use Excel to take advantage of advanced formulas and charts
  • Use CSV to import into R, Python, or databases
  • Make sure the shapefile has a .prj file for accurate calculations
  • If you upload the file in your country's official projected coordinate system, the area is calculated in that system

Frequently Asked Questions

We support Shapefile (.shp), GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, and ZIP files containing Shapefiles. All of them are converted to Excel (.xlsx) or CSV while keeping the original attributes.

Yes, the coordinates of each geometry are exported (centroid for polygons, direct coordinates for points). In addition, areas and perimeters are automatically calculated for polygons.

The standard limit is 100MB per file. For larger files, consider splitting your data or contacting support for enterprise options.
